HOW TO OBTAIN YOUR SA302

If you are Self-Employed and you’ve been asked by a lender or mortgage provider to send them your SA302, you might not know where to start.

Your SA302 (can also be referred to as your tax calculation) is a brief summary of the income that has been reported to the HMRC and shows your income for the year and how much tax you owe.

An additional document called a Tax Year Overview verifies that the SA302 information is correct.

It is produced by HMRC once you have submitted your self-assessment tax return and shows the amount of tax due to be paid direct to HMRC or any available amount for refund for a given tax year.

HOW TO GET HOLD OF YOUR SA302

You will need to be able to access your online account with HMRC (using your Government Gateway login details).

Using HMRC’s online services

  1. Log in to your HMRC online account using your Government Gateway credentials

  2. Go to ‘Self Assessment’

  3. Click ‘More Assessment Details’

  4. Download and print your SA302 from here

If you need an SA302 for a different tax year, you just need to click ‘Tax Return Options’ in the menu and select the relevant year.

PROBLEMS OBTAINING YOUR SA302?

If your accountant has completed your tax return using their own software, you may not be able to download the SA302 from your HMRC online account. In this case, contact your accountant and they will be able to provide your tax computation (calculation) which is effectively the same thing.

If you are still having problems , the best thing to do is to contact HMRC by phone on 0300 200 3310. They will ask for your National Insurance number and Self Assessment Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) so it’s best to have them to hand when you phone.
