As we approach the Self-Assessment filing deadline on 31 January 2025, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) reminds everyone to be vigilant against potential scams and fraudsters.
With millions of people due to complete their Self-Assessment tax return and pay any tax owed by 31 January 2025, fraudsters are targeting people with offers of tax refunds or demanding payment of tax to get hold of personal information and banking details.
Concerned customers reported nearly 150,000 scam referrals to HMRC in the last year.

Check on GOV.UK / your government gateway online.
You will be able to see any refunds that are due to you in your Self-assessment account.
Recognise Scams:
Be cautious of unexpected emails, texts, or calls claiming to be from HMRC.
Remember, HMRC will never ask for personal information via email, text, or phone, nor will they leave voicemails threatening legal action.
